At The Headshot Company, we believe in a minimalist approach to gear, focusing on high-quality tools that enhance our efficiency and reliability without creating clutter.

While excellent headshots can be captured with a basic camera and a speedlight with an umbrella, our choice of professional equipment ensures a smoother workflow and superior client experience.

Here’s a glimpse into the tools that help us capture those perfect headshots.

Cameras

Fujifilm X-T5:

The X-T5 is my main camera for headshots. Fujifilm cameras are known for their natural, film-like colours, which means skin tones look flattering right out of camera. Paired with the 16–55mm f/2.8 lens, this setup is versatile enough for both individual portraits and wider group shots, without compromising sharpness or quality.

Whether I’m photographing a CEO for LinkedIn or a whole office team, this kit helps keep things fast, efficient, and professional.

Lighting Equipment

Godox AD200 II (Travel & Mobile Headshots)

When I’m on the road, whether shooting headshots at a client’s office in Christchurch or at an event in Auckland, I use Godox AD200 IIs. They’re portable, powerful, and perfect for mobile setups.

Profoto (Studio & High-Volume Sessions)

In the studio and at high-volume headshot booths, I rely on Profoto lights. Their consistency ensures that every headshot looks professional, even when photographing hundreds of people in a single day. This reliability is one of the reasons companies trust us for team photos and event activations.

Every lighting setup is designed to flatter, with natural, approachable results that help people feel confident about their professional image.

The Client Experience

We always shoot tethered, whether in studio or on location. Tethered shooting means the camera is connected directly to a laptop or monitor, so every photo appears instantly on a larger screen.

This has a few big advantages for clients:

  • Instant review – You don’t have to wait until after the session to see how the photos turned out. Each image pops up straight away.

  • Making selections on the spot – You can flag your favourites during the session, so there’s no guessing later.

  • Fine-tuning in real time – If we spot something small, like a jacket sitting slightly off or hair out of place, we can fix it there and then.

The result? A collaborative process where clients feel involved, confident, and assured they’re leaving with a headshot they’ll love.

On the editing side, we use Capture One for tethering and initial adjustments, followed by Photoshop for final retouching. This ensures a professional finish that’s natural, polished, and ready for use across LinkedIn, company websites, or marketing material.

Why It Matters

For businesses, professional headshots are about more than just looking good. They help build trust, strengthen brand identity, and present a unified, professional image across platforms like LinkedIn, websites, and company profiles.

By combining reliable gear with years of experience, The Headshot Company makes the process simple and stress-free for individuals, small teams, and large organisations throughout New Zealand.

Whether it’s a personal branding shoot, professional team photography, or a high-volume event activation, we’re here to deliver headshots that people feel confident putting out into the world.
